Being poor makes fashion like a lottery:
What clothing that I already own (and can’t afford to replace anyway) will be cool this season?
I guess my jean jacket is hip now.
Alright then.

Bossy Femme wrote an article I love about the definition of “femme.”
I have a hard time explaining my feelings on fashion and female sexuality, but it boils down to this: I’m a straight, petite, extremely white girl, and I like to wear short skirts, stomping-boots, sequins, cardigans, suspenders, my boyfriend’s t-shirts, floral sundresses and, on occasion, something genuinely scandalous to piss off the judgmental bitches at the bar (it’s SO funny!).
But none of that, NONE of it, is so that I fit the cis white male ideal of what a woman should look like, nor does it entitle anyone to harass me.
Even in my experiences with queer/feminist communities, I’ve often felt devalued for being feminine and heterosexual, like my identity is just a cop-out. Obviously, this is in no way comparable to being beaten to death for wearing a dress and having a penis at the same time, but that’s what makes it so hypocritical and scary.
If a man can be empowered in a dress, why the fuck can’t I?
I want to go to there.

Fashion Industry from a Sociological Perspective: An interview with Ashley Mears
Just browsing through a blog I follow and— HEY WAIT, I KNOW HER!!
And she is too fucking cool/brilliant to be real. She used to be a runway model, now she’s a Sociology professor at Boston University, and one of nine people on Earth who take their coffee as seriously as I do.
Look at these fierce bitches. And Marvin.
I can’t wait to be a fabulous old lady.
I’m going to rock a fur muff, giant sunglasses, and purple hair.
